What
makes 8mm Film Pros different than other film transfer companies?
The one
thing that truly sets us apart from our competition is our commitment to quality.
Your finished DVDs are actual edited, completed family heirlooms. There is no need
for further editing. We are not just transferring your films to a “raw footage”
DVD for the sole purpose of data preservation. Take a look at our
demos page to
see exactly what you can expect from 8mm Film Pros.
Your
process page mentions that 8mm Film Pros “cleans and preps” all films prior to transfer.
What exactly does this mean?
We clean
your film with a professional product called “Anti-Stat Film Cleaner” by Edwal.
This is an excellent product that cleans and lubricates color and B&W film. Additionally,
this product leaves your films static-free and resistant to dust. As we clean your
film we also “prep” it by repairing any damaged sprocket holes, worn splices, missing
film leader, etc. This work is all done by hand and it is very tedious and time
consuming. Many film transfer companies do NOT take the time to properly clean and
prep film but these two processes are absolutely crucial to a quality film transfer.

What
is the typical turnaround time for 8mm Film Pros?
We typically
quote a turnaround time of 2-4 weeks. If you need something sooner than this, please
contact us to make special arrangements.
Will
I get my original film reels, film boxes and film containers back?
Absolutely.
We will ship everything back when we ship your finished DVD(s).
I would
like the films to be in chronological order on my finished DVD but the reels are
not labeled. How can this be done?
We offer
a Preview DVD for an additional cost of just $35. We will assign temporary numbers
to each of your reels. When you watch your preview DVD, each reel of film will be
introduced by these numbers. When you receive your preview DVD, simply take notes
and provide us with any changes to the order of the reels. We will use our video
editing software to place your reels in the requested order. Once we are done placing
your films in the proper order, we will return your original films with your Final
DVD(s).
If I
choose to purchase a preview DVD for an additional $35, how long do I have to review
the footage before providing 8mm Film Pros with the correct reel order?
You have
two weeks to provide us with the new reel order instructions. We prefer that you
email these instructions to us but you can also call us.
What
if some of the footage is overexposed or underexposed?
If the
image is completely overexposed - or completely underexposed, we will do our best
to digitally remove this footage.
I would
like to add custom titles to introduce each reel on my finished DVD. Is this possible?
This is
definitely possible but this service is not included in our standard pricing. Please
call us to obtain a custom quote. We will need to know how many titles you would
like, where you would like them to appear, etc.
I would
like to organize my film reels into more than one project. Is this possible?
This is
definitely possible but this service is not included in our standard pricing. Please
call us to obtain a custom quote.
Do you
perform High Definition Film Transfers?
At the
present time, we only have the capability to perform standard definition transfers.
In the coming months, we plan to offer high definition film transfers and delivery
on Blu-ray discs.
Does
8mm Film Pros add a music soundtrack on the finished DVD?
Yes, we
add a royalty free “Piano Classics” audio track to add an audio accent to your silent
films.
Can
I request my own custom music soundtrack and provide my own music?
Unfortunately,
music licensing and synchronization laws prevent us from offering this service.
Will
my finished DVD have chapters to make navigation easier?
Yes, we
will add chapter markers at the beginning of each reel of film.
Is it
possible to request Chapter Menus and other custom DVD authoring?
This is
definitely possible but this service is not included in our standard pricing. Please
call us to obtain a custom quote.
How
many reels of film will fit on one DVD?
This depends
on the the film format and the frame rate speed at which the film was exposed. For
Super 8, roughly 1500 feet will fit on one DVD. For 8mm film, roughly 1000 feet
will fit on one DVD. For image quality reasons, we limit our DVDs to approximately
90 minutes. If your film does not fit on one single DVD, there is no charge for
additional DVDs in your first DVD set.
I would
like to purchase additional DVDs for family members. How much are additional DVD
copies?
We charge
$15 for single DVDs and $25 for projects which require more than one DVD.
I would
like to do my own digital video editing. Can I edit the DVDs that you provide?
Technically,
this is possible - but, we have a better solution. If you ship an external hard
drive with your films, we can simply transfer the AVI files to this drive. These
files will be less compressed and easier to edit than the files on a DVD.
